Pilgrimage and Prayer

Pilgrimage

We are inviting you to accept that a journey of discovery may turn into a Pilgrimage around places where people have experienced the nearness of God for countless generations. We believe that God is present through our life journeys and will continue to be present. Your reaction to that is part of the journey of discovery turning into a pilgrimage.

Pilgrim Prayer

Prayer at the start of a journey
Lord Jesus Christ, who made his own journey*
Through life, through death, and resurrection,
That we might share in his risen life,
I give you thanks for what you have done for me.
Guide me in my travels today,
And as God’s pilgrim people
came through the desert to the promised land,**
protect me from harm,
that I may arrive safely at my journey’s end.

*Read about this in the Gospel of Mark in the Bible.
**This refers to the escape of the Hebrew people from slavery in Egypt and their long journey across the Sinai Desert to the land promised to them across the Jordan. The story is in the Book of Exodus in the Bible.

Church Prayer

Loving Lord, I give you thanks that,
by your Holy Spirit, you have stirred up people
to build this church and to use it as
a symbol of your everlasting love for all humanity.
I give you thanks that it remains a focus for worship
and a comfort and inspiration to this community.
I pray for all who worship or visit here.

Welcome

We hope your tour around our churches or your visit to just one church will be both an enjoyable day and a day of discovery and an enjoyable experience. We have worked hard to provide improved access, signing and interpretation to improve the experience.

Discovery

Making any journey we are likely to make discoveries. This is true on journeys from one place to another, even if we are familiar with the journey. It is also true on our journey through life. We invite you to reflect on your life journey as you journey around our churches.

Open Doors

Our ability to make discoveries and our scope for appreciating and learning from these discoveries is, however, likely to be increased if we consciously think about what we are experiencing. We in these churches believe that we can better appreciate God’s presence with us at all times if we consciously seek Him out in our experiences. We do this as we gather together Sunday by Sunday. So we invite you to open your mind to the possibility that God might awake new thoughts, ideas and emotions in you as you open the doors of these churches.
